This topic might strike some people as shocking because nobody wants to truly believe Christians are pretending. But, there are some rare occasions when Christians pretend to be Holy but are not. The people that pretend surely have a variety of reasons why they do it. But it doesn’t mean they like it or benefit from it.

There’s a story of a family that went to church every Sunday. They always sat behind the same family every week. They often observed the behavior and accidentally overheard conversations between the couple and their children.

This particular family was well known and well loved in the congregation. They always dressed beautifully and had smiles on their faces. In addition, they always treated others with kindness. This is what made them well known in the church. The family that sat behind the well-known family noticed that every Sunday they seemed preoccupied and have whispering conversations between each other and their children.

Now, anyone who has children can understand they don’t always want to sit still or be quiet and a whisper to them here and there throughout the service is required. But, it’s what the couple would whisper that was so surprising. They didn’t seem to treat each other with kindness at all, not even their children received kindness.

It shocked the family that observed this every week. They didn’t understand how they could pretend to be kind to others and not to each other. One day the couple that observed this each week decided to pay closer attention to what the couple was saying. They thought perhaps they had the wrong impression of what was going on.

So, they leaned forward when they would see the couple talking to each other during scripture readings. The couple was hoping to overhear them praying, but they got a rude awakening instead. They actually whispered to each other, “It’s almost time to go, we put our appearance in here at church.”

Your appearance? What does that mean? It seems they were just pretending all along so they look good in society and at church. But, the truth was they weren’t very close with the Lord.

It seems they thought they were “winning” by pretending to make it look good. But, they were actually the ones who were being cheated from creating a lifelong bond with the Lord.

Do you think people win by pretending to believe in the Lord?

Through out his young life, he always felt protection and blessings and even though was not walking with the Lord, always acknowledged his blessings. It was when he turned 30, that he became a follower and prayed based on John 3:3 – “In order to enter the Kingdom of God, you must be born again.” Mr. Alvarez enjoys Men’s ministries and is active in the prison ministry movement where he gives weekly leadership and christian talks.
