“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” – Maya Angelou
As you go about your day take a look around to observe the people around you. Throughout one day many of us come into contact with strangers, friends, family members, co-workers, acquaintances and enemies. Yes, Enemies. The contact you have with people can either brighten their day or make it worse.
Many people might think they don’t have enemies since they live a good moral life and spread good vibes to everyone. Sometimes enemies are those who are jealous of you and your life without you even knowing it. You can’t control how other people feel, but you can do your best to brighten someone’s day, even if they are an enemy.
There’s a story about two women who were co-workers that were forced to share a cubicle in an office building. One of the ladies was a calm happy person that did her work with ease and patience, while the other woman hated her job and was angry that her co-worker had such a pleasant experience. The negative co-worker exuded hatred for the other woman.
One day, the negative woman came into the office upset about something. She was going to leave work early that day to be admitted to the hospital for heart surgery. The positive woman noticed the negative woman was quiet and not exuding anger so she asked her if she was ok. When the negative woman told her she was scared she would die from the heart surgery and never see her four children again, the positive woman shared her own experience of almost dying in an accident many years before.
After a meaningful conversation, they worked all day until the negative co-worker was ready to leave for the hospital. The negative woman tapped the positive woman on the shoulder and hugged her, telling her that after their conversation she doesn’t feel fear anymore and she is determined to get through the surgery and see her kids again. That day, the positive woman was the rainbow in the negative woman’s dark cloud.
How can you be the rainbow in someone else’s cloud?
