Do you read the Bible? You will be surprised at how many people say no. But, they do attend church regularly. While it’s important to attend church, it is equally important to read the Bible on your own. It allows you to become closer to God on a one-on-one basis. It allows you to interpret your own meaning to the stories in the Bible. It also gives you a voice when discussing it with others.
Praying is a personal moment for everyone. You and God are the only ones that know what is being said. It’s a moment when you can pray for anything and anyone you want. Prayer is also known to be a powerful tool to help others. How many times has someone said to you, “I’ll pray for you” when you were going through difficult times in life? Just the feeling of knowing someone is praying for you can lift your spirits.
There is a story about a young girl who had broken her leg in a car accident. She was in a lot of pain and was ordered by the doctor to stay home from school for almost 3 months. The pain medication wasn’t helping to lessen the pain. She would spend all day sitting alone watching television while her parents were at work.
The next door neighbor who was an older woman from another country would check in on her a couple times during the day until her parents got home. Every time she visited the girl, the woman would pray over the girl’s leg. She would tell the girl to close her eyes while she prayed. The girl reported that every time the woman prayed over her leg it was the only relief she got from the pain.
Sometimes just knowing that someone is praying for you and wanting the best for you, can help comfort your soul. Also, there is the power of prayer too. There are thousands of stories about how the power of prayer healed people when the doctors thought there was no hope.
The combination of reading the Bible, growing closer to the Lord and praying creates a strong foundation for life. It’s up to you to strengthen your faith in the Lord. It takes an effort to keep the momentum going forward and discovering a deeper level of faith as you move forward in your life. You can start today by praying and reading the Bible.
Wilson Alvarez, a lover of Jesus Christ had an early experience where he had a vision of the Risen Lord & instantaneously became a believer at the prime age of 3. Throughout his young life, he always felt protection and blessings and even though was not walking with the Lord, always acknowledged his blessings. It was when he turned 30, that he became a follower and prayed based on John 3:3 – “In order to enter the Kingdom of God, you must be born again.” Mr. Alvarez enjoys Men’s ministries and is active in the prison ministry movement where he gives weekly leadership and christian talks.
